The Insurance Young Guns (IYG) Council

The Insurance Young Guns (IYG) Council is made up of six members from various short-term insurance walks of life. From specialist brokers, underwriters and client executives to the marketing of one of South Africa’s leading insurance risk magazines, we all share a common passion: communication, education and the greater good.

As council members, we recognise there is a skills shortage in the younger generations in the South African insurance market and particularly those under the age of 35 who are in their early careers but who wish to grow their network and take charge of their careers. By creating the IYG, we are committing to building a platform that gives individuals the opportunity to nurture their professional affiliations, to learn from their peers and to cultivate a network that will be beneficial in the long run.

The fast take-up of interest in our IYG initiative made it apparent from the early stages that this is an initiative that members want to support. Members under 35 want a voice, want to own their careers and want to understand the wider marketplace that we trade in. In this way, the IYG vision statement was born: to promote a thriving insurance industry by attracting, nurturing and retaining young talent.
